Willow stands in the windowsill and I walk to her side. She pulls her pack to her back and reaches a hand out and around to the side of the building, then pulls herself outward and climbs up. I climb out and follow her up. We shimmy along and up the the last two stories of the building.
Willow reaches the top first and offers a hand down to me. I smirk up at her and reach my arm past her to the ledge and heave myself up. I roll over the edge with ease and land in a perfect combat stance. I chuckle lightly at her. She smiles and rolls her eyes, then turns around to continue with the task at hand.
We stride over to a large radio antenna on the corner of the roof. Willow grips one of the thick cords leading down the the facility’s entrance.
"This one should support us ok"
We reach into our packs and pull out our zip line gear and begin to untangle and assemble it. Willow struggles with the tangled mess of her harness.
"Things could get hairy in there, did you charge up well today just in case?"
"Spent four hours in the Sear so yeah, I’ve got plenty of charge"
Willow sighs as she fiddles with tightening her harness.
"It must be so nice up there. I’ve always wondered how the sun must have felt back in the Old Time. How lucky you are"
She is right. I alone, being the only survivor of the Sunbit program, am the only person on this burning planet able to be in direct sunlight without being utterly radiated or burned alive by the suns rays. I instead absorb it; and use it to my advantage.
I finish my harness and approach Willow and reach for hers, helping her tighten it.
"Maybe things will be different one day Willow, and I can show you"
I finish and stand there staring at her, not wanting to back away. She looks into my eyes and we lock our gazes.
She blinks away her stare, clears her throat, and backs away. My watch beeps as she she hooks her harness to the power line.
"We go in, we get that intel, and we get out, ok?" She asks with a worrisome gaze
I smile faintly at her. “I’ll be fine, I’ve been practicing my patience and training my powers. I’m ready for anything”
She nods “I sure hope so”
She leaps off the building and zips to down, with me following shortly after her.
